Blessed are Those who are in Need of Comfort....

Let's be honest. Some days are just hard when it comes to my job. I work with children who come from low income families, and have behavioral problems (or the parents are just too messed up to parent right) There are so many things that I see everyday that break my heart. Like today I got to sit there again while a mom yelled the "F" word at her daughter. It is SO sad. However, I LOVE my job. Yeah it can be tough sometimes, but really I am doing exactly what I wanted to do. Here are some of the reasons I LOVE my job:

1.) I get to set my own schedule. I don't have to request days off!!
2.) I get to wear whatever I want. Converse and a sweatshirt....DONE!
3.) I get to play mommy, and I LOVE it. It is fun buckling them into their booster seats and dropping them off at school.
4.) When you are dealing out the rewards for good behavior you get to go to McDonalds or Leo's and take them to Boo at the Zoo.
5.) Can I say feed the ducks by the temple.
6.) If you don't like a coworker you don't have to work with them. If you don't like a client you can switch to another one.
7.) You get to make them laugh and try to make them happy amidst their horrible lives.
8.) You get to make a difference in the lives of these kids that in reality don't have much hope.
9.) Sometimes I get to be the one good thing in their life when they don't have friends at school or at home.
10.) It is a feel good job!

So there they are. When I was little I would come home from school and tell my mom about all the outcasts at school. She taught me to always love them and show them compassion, which I did. I think that is why I love being a social worker so much. I find absolute joy in loving those people whom the world has rejected.
